Obama: Democratic ethos under threat but continues to inspire

Seven years after his last speech in Greece, former US president Barack Obama returned to the stage of the Greek National Opera's Stavros Niarchos Hall in southern Athens on Thursday for a conversation with Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos as part of the annual Nostos conference.

Obama in Athens to meet members of his Foundation’s Leaders program

Former US President Barack Obama is in Athens on Wednesday where he will meet 105 members of the Barack Obama Foundation Leaders program. 

The meeting will take place without the presence of the public and marks the completion of the six-month journey of the participants for 2023.

Barbara Kingsolver wins Women’s Prize for Fiction

American novelist Barbara Kingsolver won the prestigious Women's Prize for Fiction Wednesday with "Demon Copperhead," the Dickens-inspired tale of a boy's struggle against the odds in a corner of America scarred by opioid addiction.

Kingsolver's Appalachian coming-of-age tale was announced as winner of the 30,000 pounds ($38,000) award at a ceremony in London.

Obama to participate in SNF Nostos event next week during Athens visit

Former US president Barack Obama will be in Athens next week and will participate in this year's SNF Nostos Conference (June 21-23), organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

He will join SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos for a keynote conversation focused on how to strengthen democratic culture and the importance of investing in the next generation of leaders.

Tsunis visits US pavilion at Thessaloniki book fair

United States Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis visited the American pavilion at the 19th Thessaloniki International Book Fair (TIBF) on Friday.

In a tweet, Tsunis noted that "we're celebrating the rich tradition of American literature and our countries' shared passion for books - from beloved American novels to poetry, drama, and non-fiction. Come check it out!"
