Antique carpet collectors are in Istanbul

Istanbul is hosting the 15th International Conference on Oriental Carpets (ICOC) starting today and will continue through June 9.

The proceeds of the "Women Behind the Weaving Loom" exhibition, which will take place in the ballroom during the conference to be held at The Marmara Taksim, will be donated to the weaving workshop to be established in Hatay.

Arkas presents carpet collection in historic mansion

Arkas, which has undertaken the restoration of the historic Mattheys Mansion in İzmir, is now presenting a selection from the Arkas Carpet Collection at the Arkas Art Bornova Mattheys Mansion, which it opened inside the mansion as its fourth art center in the city.

The mansion is one of Bornova's mansions that stand out with its history and architecture.

Rare portraits of Ottoman sultans to be sold at London auction

British auction house Christie's will offer collectors a chance to purchase the rare portraits of six Ottoman sultans - Orhan Gazi, Bayezid I, Isa Chelebi, Mehmed I, Selim I and Selim II - when they go under the hammer on Oct. 28.

The portraits are expected to fetch a total of 800,000 to 1.2 million pounds ($1.1 million - $1.64 million).

Craftsman keeping tradition of repairing antique carpets alive

Ramazan Yumuşak is the last representative of a family who has been repairing "antique carpets with antique carpets" for three generations in Istanbul, which is noted as one of the well-known carpet and rug centers of the world. He wants to keep the tradition alive by passing his 36-year profession, which he started at the age of 11, to future generations.
