End-of-year pieces typically highlight the milestones of the past year. For a food writer, it's about the best meals savored; for a wine writer, it's the finest bottles uncorked. This year, my memory is foggy, the only memory I recall vividly is our bizarre trip to Provence with my daughter who is 28.

Serve the soup!
Recently, News Hour programs in Turkey have been swept with the news of a soup list. The breaking news was that a widely popular Turkish soup was entitled to be in the list of "20 of the World's Best Soups" which was compiled by CNN Travel. The proud winner soup from Turkey was Yayla Çorbası, literally Highland Soup, a yoghurt-based soup with rice seasoned with crushed dried mint.

Village woman shares success story at int’l symposium
A woman who made her village famous countrywide with special tomato paste and tarhana soup in the northwestern province of Bursa has been invited to international symposiums in Kazakhstan to share her experiences with young female entrepreneurs.
"A woman can succeed in anything she wants," Sermin Cakalıoğlu said in her speeches to Kazakh women in five meetings in three cities.

'Tsunami-sunk' Roman ruins discovered in Tunisia
Vast underwater Roman ruins have been discovered off northeast Tunisia, apparently confirming a theory that the city of Neapolis was partly submerged by a tsunami in the 4th century AD.
"It's a major discovery," Mounir Fantar, the head of a Tunisian-Italian archaeological mission which made the find off the coast of Nabeul, said.
