A quarantine has been imposed in Istanbul’s Büyükada after the highly infectious glanders disease was discovered in some of the island’s horses.
Pneumonic Plague in Madagascar Continues to Decline
Pneumonic plague continues to decline in Madagascar, according to the World Health Organization, whose latest figures put the number of suspected cases at 1,947, including 143 deaths.
The latest reported cases of pneumonic plague, based on the number of people hospitalized and on district reporting in Madagascar, is good news, said Fadela Chaib, WHO spokeswoman.

The dire situation with regard to the illegal landfills scattered around the country, and the subsequent fines imposed by the European Court of Justice (ECJ), are just a reflection of the chronic ills that plague Greece.

Bubonic plague found on Arizona fleas
Fleas in Arizona have tested positive for the bubonic plague, prompting health officials to advise residents to "take precautions" to reduce their risk of becoming infected with the disease, which killed millions during the Middle Ages.
Navajo County confirmed on Friday that fleas in the area have tested positive for the disease, once known as 'the Black Death.'

West Nile Virus case confirmed in Greece
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) said that the first case of the West Nile Virus has been confirmed in Greece this year. The watchdog said that no cases of the virus in humans had been recorded in 2015 and 2016.
