32 parties and independents to contest June 25 election
A total of 32 parties, coalitions and independents have been given the green light to contest the June 25 general election, following a decision by the Supreme Court on Thursday evening.
The names of the electoral entities are (in alphabetical order):
Tensions flare in front of Parliament during protest against bill
Tensions flared in the center of Athens on Friday as members of the anti-capitalist ANTARSYA party tried to enter the vicinity of Parliament during a protest against new reforms, including restrictions on the right to strike.
Police responded with teargas.
Parliament is set to approve the measures on January 15 in return for bailout funds.
Tsakalotos on Wall Street
Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos recently rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Earlier, he met with businesspeople, fund managers and representatives of the financial markets, and spoke at the Invest in Greece Capital Link Forum.

Far leftist ANTARSYA members barge into Journalist Union demand continuation of media strike
Members of the far leftist party ‘ANTARSYA’ (Left Anti-capitalist Collaboration for Subversion) invaded the offices of the Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA) on Monday demanding a prolonged media strike by the members of the union, who were in the middle of a board meeting on the strike under way.
Sporadic violence in downtown Athens near rally on Fri.
The first reports of street violence on Friday afternoon cited a group of 500 so-called “anti-state” activists attacking riot police with clubs and other objects near the “no” rally — incidents, however, that have occurred repeatedly in the past in central Athens.
Golden Dawn supporters sentenced over attack against ANTARSYA member
Two Golden Dawn supporters on Thursday were found guilty of bodily harm by a court in Serres, northeastern Greece, in an attack against a member of anti-capitalist ANTARSYA party carried out in October 2012. Both defendants were sentenced to 12-month prison sentences, suspended for three years.
One of the defendants was former Serres Golden Dawn deputy Nikitas Siois.

Golden Dawn candidate and member arrested with illegal weapons
A 52-year-old candidate running on the Golden Dawn ticket in the January 25 polls and a 22-year-old member of the far-right party faced illegal weapons charges on Monday after a police patrol found an unlicensed hunting rifle, a retractable baton and a can of pepper spray in the car they were traveling in.
