Victims of apartheid in South Africa cannot sue IBM Corp. and Ford Motor Co. in New York because they cannot show that the companies' alleged offending behavior occurred in the United States, a federal appeals court said on July 27.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir flew out of South Africa on June 15, dodging a court order for him to stay as judges weighed up whether he should be arrested over alleged war crimes and genocide.

Friends and family of Nelson Mandela laid wreaths Dec. 5 at a bronze statue of the late statesman to mark the anniversary of his death.

Mandela's widow, Graca Machel, recalled the former president's last moments, saying he was at peace and surrounded by family. Mandela died last Dec. 5 after a long illness at the age of 95.
