Archaeologists Discover Large Roman Building under Tree Where Coin Hoard Was Found in Bulgaria's Mezdra

The foundations of a large Ancient Roman building which may have been burned down during a barbarian invasion in the 4th century AD have been discovered in the town of Mezdra in Northwest Bulgaria after local archaeologists began rescue excavations at a spot where a hoard of Roman silver coins was recently found underneath a tree.

The Nebra Sky Disk is one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th Century

The Nebra sky disk is made from bronze; it weighs about five pounds and is approximately 12 inches in diameter, with a bluish-green coating and ornaments of gold symbols. The symbols have been tentatively interpreted as a lunar crescent, a sun or full moon, and stars. One theory is that it could also represent a cluster of stars we now know as the constellation Pleiades.

Ancient stele turns out to be fake

A 2,700-year-old ancient funerary stele that went missing before being found in the yard of an excavation company has turned out to be a fake. 

It was determined that the stone was made out of volcanic pink andesite stone and was covered with a chemical substance to present a historical look. 

Bulgarian Archaeologists Discover Roman Coin Hoard in Downtown Sofia

Bulgarian archaeologists discovered an ancient Roman hoard consisting of 2976 silver denarii coins during excavations works at Saint Nedelya square in downtown Sofia.

The coins were found in a ceramic vessel, which bears the name of its last owner inscribed on one of its sides, Cross news agency informs.
