The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York said on May 19 it hopes to reopen in mid-August or a few weeks later with reduced visiting hours and no guided tours so as to encourage social distancing.    

The Ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the event of the year in New York, is being postponed due to the new coronavirus, Anna Wintour announced, the Associated Press and AFP reported.

The decision of the organizers is related to the order of the museum management to close it until May 15. The ball was scheduled for May 4.

New York's heralded Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) reopens this month after a multi-million-dollar makeover that will allow curators to display hundreds more works every year.
