Bartholomew, Ieronymos exchange wishes for new year

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the head of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Ieronymos, exchanged wished for the new year, state-run news agency AMNA reported on Tuesday.

Ieronymos called Bartholomew on New Year's Eve with both leaders expressing hope that the much-desired peace would prevail in the war-torn and conflict-ridden world in 2024. 

Archbishop Ieronymos labels homosexuality as a ‘deviation’

The leader of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Ieronymos, has described homosexuality as a "deviation." 

During a visit to Argolida in southern Greece on Wednesday, Ieronymos said, "The Church has its beliefs… Those who are in the Church and believe have a way of life. Whatever is outside this thing is a diversion from life," he said. 

Brother of main suspect in officer’s injury called to testify again

The 16-year-old brother of a man who allegedly confessed on Sunday to being responsible for hitting a police officer with the naval flare during a sports-related riot last week has been asked to testify again.

According to information, the teen's initial testimony contradicted that of his 18-year-old brother and alleged perpetrator who will appear before a prosecutor on Thursday.

Bishop Anthimos of Thessaloniki resigns

Anthimos, the senior Greek Orthodox cleric in Thessaloniki in northern Greece, has tendered his resignation as conveyed through an official announcement on Tuesday. 

According to the announcement, the 88-year-old Bishop Anthimos formally submitted his resignation to Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos on Monday. 

Theodoros Pangalos, outspoken former foreign minister, dies at 84

Theodoros Pangalos, a former Greek foreign minister known for his undiplomatic outbursts and on whose watch Greece suffered one of its most embarrassing foreign policy debacles in 1999, has died. He was 84.

Pangalos' family said on Twitter that he died on Wednesday "peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and close associates."

Former foreign minister Theodoros Pangalos dies

Theodoros Pangalos, a former foreign minister with Socialist PASOK in the 1990s, died on Wednesday, aged 84. The news was announced by his family on his Twitter account. 

"Our beloved Theodoros Pangalos died today peacefully at home with his family and close associates by his side. Have a good journey our beloved. We will always remember you with love," the tweet said.
