Public services need reinforcement and new blood. However, this support must be carried out methodically, transparently and quickly. 

The pace at which the public administration recruitment processes, known as ASEP, operates has made transparency seem incompatible with speed.

2,145 nursing positions added to Greek hospitals

A decision to recruit 2,145 permanent nursing personnel in public hospitals across Greece was signed on Thursday by the State Personnel Selection Board (ASEP).

The allocation of positions was based on existing needs in the national health system, including in university and secondary education hospitals. ASEP is expected to make an official posting in the coming days. 

Many workers turn noses up at local authority jobs

While there is growing interest on the part of potential employees to apply for local authority positions, when it comes to the time of appointment, it is estimated that one in two turn their backs on the public sector.

"The public sector does not attract," wrote president of the state's Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP) Thanos Papaioannou in a post.

Government preparing plan for civil service hirings

A bill currently being drafted by the Administrative Reform Ministry and expected to be submitted to Parliament within the month aims to introduce a four-year plan for recruitments in the civil service, the latest in a series of apparent attempts by the government to win support ahead of elections next year.
