Asian foreign policy of the Narendra Modi government

President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met in central China Friday as they seek to repair ties that were marred by a border dispute last year.    

India's first bullet train project, a $19-billion initiative linking Ahmedabad to Mumbai, was launched on Sept. 14 as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe hailed fast-growing ties between Asia's two biggest democracies.

India's cabinet on May 24 approved a long-awaited policy to boost local manufacturing of high-tech defense equipment and cut down reliance on expensive imports.

Under the new Strategic Partnership model, the government will pick Indian companies to tie up with foreign organizations to manufacture fighter jets, armored vehicles, helicopters and submarines locally.
