Imprisoned novelist Aslı Erdoğan at risk of being paralyzed: CHP deputy

Turkish novelist Aslı Erdoğan, arrested in August on terror charges as part of the investigation into closed daily Özgür Gündem, is at risk of being paralyzed while in jail, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Utku Çakırözer has said.

Authors Can Dündar and Aslı Erdoğan and linguist Necmiye Alpay have slammed the detention of executives and columnists from the critical daily newspaper Cumhuriyet.

Dündar, who until recently was Cumhuriyet's editor-in-chief, said Europe had to decide whether to take a principled stand over the situation in Turkey. 

AKP deputy calls for trial without arrest for jailed writers

A lawmaker from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has said jailed writers in Turkey should be tried without arrest. 
Orhan Miroğlu, the AKP's deputy from the southeastern province of Mardin, specifically referred to the case of award-winning arrested novelist Aslı Erdoğan.
