Assassination of Andrei Karlov

Alexey Yerkhov, the new Russian ambassador to Ankara who replaced his murdered predecessor Andrey Karlov, has said he feels no security concerns in the country. 

Russia's new ambassador to Ankara Aleksey V. Erkhov visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, on July 28. He paid a silent tribute to the First President of Turkey, according to a written statement from the Russian Embassy.

Russia's new ambassador to Turkey, Aleksey Yerhov, presented his letter of credentials to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on July 28. 

In May, Yerhov was appointed Russia's new ambassador to Ankara five months after the assassination of former envoy Andrey Karlov.

Yerhov is the former consul general in Istanbul. 

Turkey and Russia are vital partners to each other, according to Aleksei Yerhov, the new Russian ambassador to Ankara appointed to replace the late Andrey Karlov, who was assassinated last year in the Turkish capital. 

Russia has appointed Alexei Yerkhov as Moscow's new ambassador to Turkey, under a decree signed by President Vladimir Putin on June 19, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.      

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has identified five suspects in connection with the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov and is pursuing the possibility that one of the five might have ordered the assassin police officer to kill the envoy, daily Yeni Şafak reported on June 12.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said his German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel, will visit Turkey on June 5, during which time they will discuss a recent rift on the cancellation of a German parliamentary visit to the İncirlik Air Base.

Russia on May 18 appointed Aleksey Yerhov as its new ambassador to Ankara, five months after the assassination of former Envoy Andrey Karlov.

The appointment comes ahead of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the country for a meeting of heads of states of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) countries in Istanbul on May 22. 

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said he hopes U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's visit to Moscow will focus on the future of Syria rather than Washington and Moscow's own narrow interests, noting that Turkey wants to continue cooperation with Russia and the United States to resolve the Syrian crisis despite some differences of opinion. 

Frankly, Turkey's foreign relations had started to look not so bad after the first advances against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria in the framework of the Euphrates Shield operation.
