4.7-magnitude tremor hits southeastern Aegean

A 4.7-magnitude quake struck the undersea area 21 kilometers northwest of the Greek island of Astypalaia in the southeastern Aegean on Tuesday evening, according to an automated reading of the Geodynamic Institute of Athens.

The tremor was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers and felt as far as Athens.

No injuries or damages were immediately reported.

Six Olympic Air flights canceled

Olympic Air has canceled six domestic flights scheduled for Wednesday due to rolling walkouts by Civil Aviation Authority staff.

The affected flights were between Athens and the islands of Kythera, Paros and Leros, and inter-island flights between Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, Astypalaia, Rhodes and Kastellorizo.

Another eight flights were canceled Tuesday.

More Olympic flights to be canceled Wednesday

After canceling eight flights Tuesday, Olympic Air announced the cancellation of another six domestic flights scheduled for Wednesday due to rolling walkouts by Civil Aviation Authority staff.

The affected flights are between Athens and the islands of Kythera, Paros and Leros, and inter-island flights between Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, Astypalaia, Rhodes and Kastellorizo.

Antiquities from illegal excavation found in cave on Astypalea

Thirty seven antiquities from an illegal excavation were found and confiscated in Negros cave on the island of Astypalea during a police investigation.

The confiscated antiquities are dated back to the Late Neolithic Period, the Classical and the Hellenistic Era and the Late Antiquity.
