Actor acquitted of 2018 rape of taxi driver

An actor that had been remanded in custody for 15 months on charges that he had drugged and raped a 25-year-old taxi driver was acquitted by a court in Athens on Tuesday.

A seven-judge court voted 4-3 in favor of the suspect's acquittal. However, the judges voted unanimously to convict him of illegal drugs possession and handed him a suspended 30-day jail sentence.

Police detain 6 after overnight clashes

Athens police say they have detained six persons after they were attacked with rocks and firebombs in central Athens early Sunday.

The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. when police investigated a report of young people damaging city property near Akadimias St.

A group of young people got out of the Athens University's Law School and attacked the police.

Athens Medical School admin staff to strike Mon-Fri

Athens Medical School will be closed from Monday until Friday due to a protest by administrative employees.

The staff said they want to highlight the problems at the institution, such as the lack of guards and cleaners, as well as the fact that colleagues who were forced into the public sector mobility scheme are set to lose their jobs.
