Dust storm sweeps across Istanbul, prompting health warnings

A dust storm originating from the Sahara Desert is sweeping across Istanbul, prompting health warnings from experts due to potential adverse effects on respiratory health.

The dust clouds, propelled by strong winds, reached Türkiye from the Sahara Desert and engulfed Istanbul during the midnight hours, impacting some districts.

Expert warns of dust clouds heading from Europe

Dust clouds blowing from Europe will cover Turkey's sky until the next week, a Turkish academic has said.

An Istanbul-based meteorologist, Hüseyin Toros, told state-run Anadolu Agency that desert dust storms that hit Europe and have been active throughout the week are now heading toward Turkey starting from today.

Weather in Bulgaria: Quiet and Sunny

Light snowfalls are expected in some eastern regions of Bulgaria in the morning, the national weather service reports.

Over the rest of the country it will be predominantly sunny and northwestern wind will subside in many regions.

Day highs will stay at minus 1-4 C.

Friday night clouds will again get denser starting from the west.

NIMH: Mostly Sunny with Increasing Cloudiness Sometimes

The atmospheric pressure will continue to increase and will significantly exceed the average for January. Today it will be mostly sunny with temporarily increasing cloudiness.

There will be light to moderate northeastern wind. The maximum temperatures will range between zero and 5°C,  the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) told FOCUS News Agency.
