Austrian border barrier

Austria said on Monday it will deploy about 2,200 troops to help deal with a massive migrant influx across its border with Hungary.

Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann told reporters in Vienna that the military would be mainly tasked with helping deliver humanitarian aid inside Austria but they "will also assist in a strengthening of border controls where necessary," AFP reported.

The Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner and Kosovo Prime Minsiter Isa Mustafa, at a joint press conference on Friday in Pristina on the issue of illegal migrants from Kosovo, said people who had entered Austria in recent months will be sent back by plane and their asylum requests expedited.
