Tesla, Chinese brands take centre stage at Munich car show

Tesla and Chinese carmakers showed off their newest electric models at the Munich auto fair, throwing down the gauntlet to their European rivals as competition in the sector intensifies.

The industry-wide shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) was on full display on the opening day of Germany's biennial IAA mobility show, one of the world's largest.

Chinese Carmaker Geely Has Sold More than 1 Million Vehicles this Year

Chinese carmaker Geely has announced that it has reached 80% of its target annual sales. For the first ten months of this year, the company was able to sell a total of 1,088,290 vehicles.

For the third year in a row, Geely's annual sales exceed 1 million units. In October alone, 130,180 vehicles were sold, 14% up from the previous year.

China eyes petrol car ban, boosting electric vehicles

China is gearing up to ban petrol and diesel cars, a move that would boost electric vehicles and shake up the world's biggest car market in a country that is plagued by pollution.

The plan would follow decisions by France and Britain to outlaw the sale of such cars and vans from 2040 to clamp down on harmful emissions.
