Two Turkish breads, both hailing from the northeastern province of Samsun, have been recognized as the world's best according to TasteAtlas, a leading online resource for global gastronomy.

The lifeless bodies of two more people washed up on the beaches of Turkish Cyprus in the last two days, increasing the number of bodies washed up on the country's beaches to five in the month of January alone.

Senior journalist Hasan Kılıç, a former employee of Hürriyet and the Turkish Journalism Association (TGC) member, has died at the age of 79 on Dec. 18.

Kılıç, who worked at Hürriyet for 34 years, died of a heart attack.

The passage of a Turkish drillship through the Aegean on Thursday was seen as a loud message to Athens that Ankara plans to play a part in energy exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider region.

Opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) dissident politician Sinan Oğan said on April 9 that he escaped an assassination attempt during a visit to the Bafra district of the Black Sea province of Samsun, while the district governor denied, saying he was exaggerating the incident.

Municipal authorities in the northern province of Samsun have launched hot-air balloon tours over touristic regions of the K?z?l?rmak basin and the Bafra district in an effort to cultivate tourism in the area.
