Russian ballet star Vladimir Shklyarov dies at 39 after falling from fifth floor
Vladimir Shklyarov, a ballet star, tragically passed away at the age of 39 after falling from the fifth floor of a building, announced a representative from the Mariinsky Theatre.
According to the theatre’s spokesperson, Shklyarov fell on Saturday. The 39-year-old dancer had been taking painkillers for a back injury and was scheduled for spinal surgery on Monday.

Sleeping Beauty | Thessaloniki | April 7
The Polish National Ballet is bringing its production of "Sleeping Beauty," with music by by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Marius Petipa's mesmerizing choreography, to the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (tch.gr) on April 7. This timeless masterpiece is directed by Nina Abramanko, a former Bolshoi dancer, and features the company's principal dancer Chinara Alizade, among others.

Tchaikovsky Festival | Athens | December 22 – January 7
The internationally acclaimed Imperial Classical Ballet of Ukraine presents three of Tchaikovsky's most loved works over the Christmas holidays at the Athens College Theater (15 Stefanou Delta, Psychiko). "The Nutcracker," "Sleeping Beauty" and "Swan Lake" will capture the magic of Christmas in a celebration of the legendary composer's greatest work.
Giselle ballet to premiere at AKM
Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (IDOB) will premiere 'Giselle Ballet' at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) on Oct 27. The work tells the tragic and romantic story of a young, beautiful and yet shy peasant girl named Giselle.
Staged by Zeynep Sunal Öngün, the ballet will be on stage on Nov. 1, 7, 15, Dec. 2 and 7 at AKM and on Nov. 4, 21 and 22 at Kadıköy Süreyya Opera Stage.

‘Minkus Night’ in Kadıköy
'Minkus Night,' to be staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet on March 31 and April 1at the Kadıköy Municipality Süreyya Opera, will present a selection of the most difficult and beautiful parts of the ballet works that have an important place in the classical ballet repertoire, inspired by the music of Ludwig Minkus. The event will start at 8:30 pm.

Jose Carlos Martinez’s Giselle opens in Ljubljana
Giselle, sometimes referred to as the Queen of Romantic Ballet, will premiere at Ljubljana's Cankarjev Dom on 12 January in a co-production with the national opera and ballet company that has been choreographed by Jose Carlos Martinez, the new director of ballet at the Paris Opera.

Ballerina Danced on Ice for a Real ‘swan lake’
A Russian ballerina from the world-renowned Mariinsky Theatre dressed in full costume performs scenes from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake… not on stage though, but on the frozen Gulf of Finland.
This is Ilmira Bagrautinova's way of objecting against the construction of a port in Batareinaya Bay, a popular beach about 100 km west of St Petersburg, Russia's second largest city.
