A drone base in the southeastern province of Batman has been playing a crucial role in the Turkish security forces’ fight against terror.

An academic personnel and two officers at Turkey’s Batman University were suspended from their duties on Dec. 20 for reflecting an incident involving “students wearing a face veil” to the press.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Siirt deputy Besime Konca was released from prison on July 29 after the approval of her appeal against a 2.5-year prison sentence for disseminating terror propaganda.  The 2nd High Criminal Court in the southeastern province of Batman ordered Konca's release considering the five years she remained in custody.

Two Turkish brothers who allegedly killed a man in Germany were arrested in the southeastern province of Batman on May 13, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The brothers, Mazlum Ö. and Süphan Ö., allegedly killed a man who was seeing their mother in Duisburg three years ago. The pair also inflicted stab wounds on their mother, although the woman survived.

Turkey's flag carrier Turkish Airlines aired a new advertisement featuring Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman at half-time of the 51st Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons in Houston, Texas on Feb. 5.

The commercial was reportedly watched by around 188 million people around the world.

Turkey's flagship carrier Turkish Airlines have signed world renowned Hollywood actor Morgan Freemen as its new brand face to represent it in the U.S. as a part of a new advertisement campaign, the company announced on Jan. 19.

Freeman, who also has a private pilot's license, will appear in a commercial shot in Los Angeles slated to be aired on the Super Bowl Final on Feb. 5 night.

Jailed Kurdish issue-focused Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş was acquitted on Jan. 19 of charges of "carrying out terror propaganda" in a speech delivered in the southeastern province of Mardin last year amid a curfew in another southeastern town. 

A 15-year-old woman who went into labor a week ago in a village in the Mutki district of the eastern province of Bitlis died on Oct. 13 in intensive care after she suffered a brain hemorrhage that it is believed to have stemmed from giving birth at an early age. 

Prince died earlier today (April 21) at age 57 at his Paisley Park home and studio, his publicist confirmed to the Associated Press. TMZ first reported the news. Prince was hospitalised last week after his plane for was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Ill.
