Battle of Baiji

Iraq?s largest refinery in Baiji is not ?at risk? despite an offensive by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group that has breached parts of the facility, the U.S. military?s top general said on April 16.

Iraq's huge offensive to retake Tikrit from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is being stalled by bombs planted by the jihadists holding out in the city, a militia spokesman said Tuesday.
      

Iraqi government forces got within a kilometre of the country's biggest refinery on Nov. 14, the closest they have come to breaking an Islamic State siege of the facility during months of fighting, two army officers and a witness said.
   

Iraqi soldiers battling the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) recaptured the heart of the town of Beiji, home to the country's largest oil refinery, state television and a military official said Nov. 11.
     

The self-proclaimed leader of Islamic State (IS) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was injured in an air strike, Iraqi officials and the state television announced.

The information was confirmed by both the Interior and Defense Ministries in Baghdad.
