The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadist group made $11 million per month from "organised crime" in Iraq's Nineveh province before seizing it and capital city Mosul, a parliamentary report obtained by AFP says.

Former Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s charges against Turkey for lending support to militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have found a bitter response from Ankara, who said al-Maliki was among the leading actors in the fall of Mosul to jihadists.

U.S. Defence Secretary Ash Carter called Iraq's Kurdish fighters a model for the kind of force needed to defeat Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as he made an unannounced visit on July 24 to the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan region.

Turkey has pledged to train the Iraqi police force at a venue located in Turkish territory, but also called on Baghdad to restructure its army to more effectively fight against the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
