Major US wildfire grows, forcing new evacuations

With oppressively hot, dry weather looming over much of the Western U.S. and Canada on July 18, the enormous Bootleg Fire in Oregon grew again and authorities ordered new evacuations.

Bootleg, the largest of 80 major fires now active in the U.S., spread overnight from 274,000 acres to 290,000 acres -- three times the size of the metropolis of Detroit, officials said.

Firefighters battle blaze burning through Pylaia pine forest

Firefighters were on Wednesday battling to contain a wildfire burning through a pine forest in Pylaia, in the municipality of Feres, northwestern Greece.

About 60 firefighters with 23 fire engines, one water-dropping helicopters and two fire-fighting planes were tackling the blaze, which broke out late Tuesday.

Firefighters battle flames in northern Peloponnese

Nearly 50 firefighters and 20 trucks were battling on Tuesday morning a fire that broke out on the outskirts of Kounina in Aigialia, northern Peloponnese in the early hours.

According to a report on Skai the fire started in the early hours and was fanned by strong winds to spread to inaccessible parts of the region.
