Slovenia’s EuroBasket hopes dashed

Slovenia lost the first two games at the European Women Basketball Championship, ruining their prospects to make it to the quarter-finals for the first time, the goal at what is their fourth EuroBasket to date.

The team lost against Germany 62:66 at Stožice Arena in Ljubljana on 16 June and 71:76 against Great Britain on 15 June, when the event opened.

New autonomous zone established in Ljubljana

Ljubljana – A new autonomous zone has been created in Ljubljana near the Žale cemetery in premises owned by the bad bank but left to decay for several years. The users of what has been named the Participative Ljubljana Autonomous Zone (PLAC) expect they will not have to face police but support in “creating a healthy and open society”.

Ljubljana Plečnik landmarks listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage

Ljubljana – Ljubljana’s landmarks designed by architect Jože Plečnik (1872-1957), including the Triple Bridge, Congress Square and Žale Cemetery, have been included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in line with a decision adopted by the World Heritage Committee on Wednesday.

No building permit for Plečnik stadium, developer will press charges

Ljubljana – The Environment and Spatial Planning Ministry rejected at the end of March the BŠP company’s request for a building permit to overhaul a rundown Ljubljana stadium designed by acclaimed architect Jože Plečnik. BŠP boss Joc Pečečnik says he will not give up on the project he launched in 2007 and will press charges.

Another setback for Plečnik stadium project

Ljubljana – The Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage opposes a project to revamp a rundown sports stadium in Ljubljana that was designed by Slovenia’s best known architect Jože Plečnik. The decision was made last month after the Culture Ministry annulled a previous positive opinion, Dnevnik reports on Tuesday.

Ljubljana – Pop singer Magnifico will not let down his fans this Christmas despite the Covid-19 epidemic and will stage his annual 25th December concert, which is usually held at Stožice Arena, online. Ticket sale is record-breaking, his team said on Thursday. Listeners from more than ten countries will tune in.
