Beer in the Netherlands

Dutch justice has found the Heineken group as jointly responsible for the anti-competitive practices implemented by its subsidiary in Greece, Athenian Brewery, in the domestic beer market, ruling on the lawsuit filed by the Brewery of Macedonia-Thrace (Vergina).

"Heineken believes in Greece. It believes in the country and the company, Athenian Brewery," said Alexandros Daniilidis, the managing director of Athenian Brewery, which turns 60 this year. 

Dutch brewing giant Heineken is scrapping 8,000 jobs worldwide in an effort to cut costs, and some 300 are scheduled to go in the Netherlands, the company confirmed on Wednesday.

Greek lager brand Alfa is preparing to take the US by storm, as the Athenian Brewery product will make its debut in American food service outlets in 2019, with an emphasis on regions with a strong Greek element.

Athenian Brewery announced on Thursday it was launching Heineken beer exports to the Chinese and Italian markets, as the first batch set off on its long trip to the Far East.
