After Russia's state gas company Gazprom on March 1 said it was terminating existing gas contracts with Ukraine, the dispute has again raised concerns about Serbia's energy dependence on the Kremlin.

Moscow and Brussels shook hands in agreement to fundamentally change the gas policy of Russia in relation to certain former satellite countries to the Soviet Union, now part of the EU, according to BNR.

Gazprom is ready to comply with EU rules to end a five-year antitrust case and avoid fines, the bloc's competition commissioner said yesterday, signaling a thaw in business ties between Moscow and Brussels despite tensions over Ukraine.

Russia supplied nearly a third of Europe's gas needs in 2016, a record amount despite tensions with the European Union and a desire by the bloc to reduce its dependence on Russian supplies.

The latest issue of Gazprom's magazine Blue Fuel said "the share of Gazprom's gas in Europe grows steadily and has almost reached about 1/3rd in the European gas consumption."

Russia has covered nearly one-third of the consumption of gas in Europe in 2016 - a record level reached in spite of tensions between Russia and the EU, announced representatives of Gazprom, cited by AFP.

The management of the company estimated its market share in Europe in 2015 at 31% which was a record even then.

In the period January 1 -December 15, Gazprom increased gas deliveries to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States by 11.9%, compared to the same period last year, to 170 billion cubic metres, reported BTA.

The Turkish side has requested Gazprom to boost gas supplies from Russia due to suspension of deliveries from Iran, the company said in a press release on Oct. 28, as reported by TASS.
