Dendias: Country ready to say ‘no’ to any threat

On the occasion of Ochi Day, commemorating Greece's defiance to Italy's Benito Mussolini in 1940, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said the country is ready, "with full awareness of its historical responsibility, to restate the 'no' to any attempt to challenge its national sovereignty and sovereign rights."

New Democracy lawmakers boycott ERT panels over bias

Opposition New Democracy has announced that its MPs will no longer make appearances on TV panels on state-run ERT.

The conservative party said the decision was made in response to offensive remarks by a panelist on a political talk show on Monday about the speech by ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Thessaloniki Trade Fair on Saturday.

Just a few days before Ochi Day, which commemorates the rejection by Greek leader Ioannis Metaxas on October 28, 1940 of Mussolini's demand for access to Greek territory, propelling Greece into World War II, Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris expressed his opposition to the traditional parade by schoolchildren held in Greek cities to mark the anniversary.

Kammenos praises Greek armed forces for vigilance in face of Turkey’s provocations

On occasion of the 76th anniversary of the “OCHI DAY”, Minister of Defence Panos Kammenos issued a statement praising the readiness of the armed forces, adding that the heroic stance of the army in 1940, when it stopped the advancing fascist forces of Mussolini in its tracks, strengthened the hopes and expectations for the future of Greece.

The students’ parade in Thessaloniki commemorating the “OXI Day”, Greece’s refusal to let the axis forces of Mussolini invade Greece in the Second World War on October 28, 1940, is under way with large crowds in attendance. Youth from secondary schools designated by the Education Ministry are participating in the celebration.
