French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday intensified efforts to find a new prime minister after almost two months of deadlock following inconclusive legislative elections, hosting two former presidents and two potential candidates.

French police were on Friday hunting a second suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a policeman in Paris, French Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said, Reuters reported.

French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve is due to conduct an official visit to Athens on March 3.

A terrorist act has been prevented in France during the weekend, announced the French Interior Minister.

Bernard Cazeneuve specified that seven people have been arrested in Marseilles and Strasbourg. They are between 29 and 37 years of age.

Cazeneuve did not reveal the potential target of the attack.

French police arrested seven terrorist suspects, Monday, who were reportedly plotting to carry out attacks in the country. The French authorities made the arrests in the cities of Strasbourg and Marseille, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said. Cazeneuve told reporters during a press conference that the individuals were of French, Moroccan and Afghan origin.
