French woman killed in sailing accident in Aegean 600 regatta

A 40-year-old French woman who was competing in the Aegean 600 regatta died in a sailing accident on Monday night off the coast of the island of Kasos.

According to preliminary reports on Tuesday, the woman was thrown into the water as gale-force winds whipped up swells as high as 2 meters in the area.

Ferry returns to Piraeus over medical emergency

The Dodecanese-bound Blue Star Patmos ferry was forced to return to the port of Piraeus on Tuesday due to a medical emergency concerning a 69-year-old citizen.

The The Blue Star Patmos had embarked from Piraeus and was to make stops at the islands of Patmos, Leipsoi, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos, Symi, and Rhodes.

No details concerning the patient's health have been made available.

Prominent shipowner Panagiotis Panagopoulos, 83, dies

Panagiotis Panagopoulos, a leader in Greek coastal shipping, has died, his family announced on Tuesday. He was 83 years old.

Born in Athens in 1935, Panagopoulos studied at Switzerland's Ecole Superieur de Commerce and then went on to work in Genoa and London at the Home Lines cruise company, owned by shipping magnate and family friend Eugenios Eugenides.
