Bulgarian Nominee for UN Secretary General Georgieva Registered Officially

The new nominee of the Bulgarian government for UN Secretary General has been registered officially as the 13th candidate to succeed Ban Ki-moon in the international organisation.

Kristalina Georgieva's name and her brief concept of how she imagines the tasks of the organisation have been published on the official webpage of the UN.

Bokova to Continue UN Race Despite Bulgaria's Change of Candidate

UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova has said she will "continue the race" to head the United Nations.

She has used the Twitter account of her campaign that was created back in the spring, after the she was officially proposed for the office.

Bulgaria's FM Calls on Bokova to Leave UN Race

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov has suggested Irina Bokova should rethink her participation in the race for UN Secretary General after the government's decision to change the official candidate of the country.

"You know there is no procedure for the withdrawal of nominations," Mitov has said after a cabinet meeting.

"I see no serious reason to withdraw. None of the other candidates, even those with worse results, is doing it because the real race is still ahead," said in an interview for 24 chasa Bulgaria's candidate for UN Secretary General Irina Bokova.

 

Bulgarian UN Secretary General Nominee Bokova Remains Sixth After Straw Poll

Bulgaria's nominee for Secretary General of the UN, Irina Bokova, remained 6th after the straw poll of the Security Council on Monday.

Bokova received a result of 6 (encourage) -7 (discourage) -3 (no opinion)by the 15 members of the Security Council.

The Portuguese candidate Antonio Guterres ranked 1st again with a score of 12-2-1.

Expert Tells DW Bulgaria's Georgieva Is 'Strong Candidate' for UN Top Job

A security expert has told Deutsche Welle that EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva is "rumored to be a strong candidate" to take over as head of the United Nations.

In an interview with DW, Prof Mats Berdal has singled out "Georgieva and also Antonio Guterres from Portugal, who used to run the UNHCR and did a very good job there."
