Authorities mull harsher fines for stockpiling

Harsher fines are being considered for stockpiling and exorbitant prices, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat has unveiled, noting that respective legislation will be submitted to parliament.

"We have completed our work as part of the efforts to fight excessive price increases. Soon we will forward it to parliament," Bolat said in an interview with private broadcaster CNN Türk.

UK Trade Secretary Badenoch visits Türkiye

Britain's Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch paid a visit to Türkiye to strengthen business links ahead of the expected launch of trade deal talks later this year, said the U.K.'s Department of Business and Trade in a statement on Jan. 5.

As part of her visit to the country, Badenoch met with her Turkish counterpart, Ömer Bolat.

Over 1,900 firms fined over exorbitant price hikes: Minister

More than 1,900 companies have been handed administrative fines totaling 137 million Turkish Liras over unfair price increases, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat has said.

They are closely monitoring companies that negatively impact consumers through exorbitant price hikes and put well-intentioned businesses under suspicion, the minister added.

Türkiye seeks to boost trade volume with Egypt to $15 bln

 

Türkiye aims to increase its bilateral trade with Egypt to $15 billion in five years, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat has said.

Bolat was in Egypt last week to hold talks with high-level officials, including Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir Saleh.

A delegation of 175 Turkish businesspeople accompanied Bolat during his visit.
