Bosnia and Herzegovina's reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence

Serbia has given a grudging response to the Kosovo government's decision on Tuesday to lift the 100-per-cent tariff imposed on imports from Serbia and Bosnia - fully removing the tariff for Bosnia while replacing tariffs more gradually with Serbia in line with a new principle of reciprocity.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has issued a protest note about recent comments made by the Serb member of Bosnia's state presidency in support of Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Earlier this week, Milorad Dodik stated in his interview to Russkiy reporter that he "considers Crimea to be Russian", and that Bosnian recognition of this unilateral annexation was "necessary".

Srpska Lista warned on Friday that it will take to the streets if the Kosovo government does not withdraw its decision to impose a ten per cent customs tariff on products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"If Pristina's unlawful measures are not withdrawn, Srpska Lista will invite citizens to peaceful protests," the party said in a statement.

The president of Republika Srpska, Bosnia's Serb-dominated entity, Milorad Dodik, sent a letter to the Serb member of the Bosnian presidency, Mladen Ivanic, calling for Bosnia to support Israel and US President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly on Thursday.

BERLIN - The Serb member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency, Mladen Ivanic, has told Deutsche Welle in an interview that BiH would not recognise Kosovo as long as he was a Presidency member and that he would not support a referendum on independence of Republika Srpska (RS).

Mirko Sarovic, Bosnia and Herzegovina's minister for foreign trade and the economy, said on Tuesday that the country could lose funds for four projects worth 90 million Bosnian marks (45.9 million euros) if the transport community treaty is not signed soon - adding to criticism already expressed by EU officials.

Bakir Izetbegovic has told Serb Republic (RS) President Milorad Dodik that he "better change his behavior, or be replaced."

Divergences on Bosnia's foreign policy priorities are growing between the Bosnian government and Republika Srpska, the country's Serb-dominated entity, experts say.

"Although Republika Srpska is just an entity inside Bosnia, they have different perceptions of their foreign policy goals," Sead Turcalo, a political sciences professor in Sarajevo, told BIRN on Monday.

Bosnia-Herzegovina has not recognized Kosovo and the issue will not be "opened and treated" during the current government's mandate.

This has been stated by the minister of foreign affairs of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Igor Crnadak, who also denied that "in the coming period" one of the topics on the agenda of the Council of Ministers would be "abolition of visas for citizens of Kosovo."
