 Clooney backs Greek campaign; minister says legal action not on cards yet

Human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney, who is married to American actor George, on Wednesday said that Greece had “just cause” in seeking the return of the Parthenon Marbles from the British Museum, speaking of an “injustice that has persisted for too long.”

Greece’s bid to establish its demand for the return of Parthenon Marbles from the British Museum in London to the Acropolis Museum in Athens more firmly on the international agenda came a step closer this week after UNESCO agreed to act as arbiter in the dispute between Greece and the UK.

Wrapping up his campaign for the return of the Parthenon Marbles from the British Museum in London to Greece, Italian professor Salvatore Lo Sicco on Saturday visited the Acropolis Museum, where he met with museum Director Dimitris Patermalis and other officials.

A Philadelphia archaeology museum said on Aug. 5 its researchers have discovered an extremely rare 6,500-year-old human skeleton in its own basement, where it had been in storage for 85 years.
