Contradictions abound on Myconos amid rising prices and endless building

Last winter, police officers on the island of Myconos were given a somewhat unusual mission: to follow concrete mixer trucks from the plant. It was not so much a tracking mission as one of deterrence, aimed at cracking down on illegal construction, and often, as soon as the truck drivers spotted the police car on their tail, they'd make a few turns and return to the plant.

Dubai skyscraper fire: Torch Tower residents wake to screams as flames engulf 79-storey building

A fire ripped through one of the world’s tallest residential towers in Dubai on Thursday night, sending panicked residents fleeing from the building.

Debris could be seen spiralling to the ground across the famous Marina district of the city as the fire consumed multiple floors of the Torch Tower after midnight.

Turkey cuts import duties on rebar in bid to ease local prices

Turkey has slashed import duties on rebar, by two-thirds in some cases, an official announcement said on July 28.

Duties on rebar imports from EU member states and Malaysia were cut from 30 percent to 10 percent, according to the Official Gazette.

Customs duties on rebar from South Korea, with which Turkey has a free trade agreement, were reduced to 5.6 percent.         

A Piece of Insulation Material from an Apartment Building Fell on a Child in Shumen

The incident happened last night when two boys were passing by the apartment building which is being renovated by the government program for energy efficiency. Piece of insulation with the size of 10x10cm flew from scaffolding next to the building and hit one of the children.

National Construction Control Directorate to Conduct an Inspection of Residential Buildings

Bulgaria's Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Nikolai Nakov, on 27th of June ordered the National Construction Control Directorate to conduct an inspection of residential buildings on which cladding has been put under a national energy efficiency programme, reported BNT. 

UK fire fears continue as 60 buildings deemed unsafe

The fallout from London's devastating tower block blaze has continued with the government announcing 60 high-rises have failed safety tests, as an insurance body said they had warned officials of the fire risks.

The massive operation to test tower blocks follows the Grenfell Tower inferno earlier this month that is presumed to have killed 79 people after it spread at shocking speed.
