Bulgaria–Sudan relations

The evacuation of foreign nationals from Sudan continues. According to AFP, mainly citizens of Persian Gulf countries have been successfully evacuated, but there are also some from Bulgaria.

The US military has evacuated US diplomats and their families from Khartoum, confirmed President Joe Biden.

The Sudanese army said Saturday it was coordinating efforts to evacuate American, British, Chinese and French citizens and diplomats from Sudan on military aircraft, as the bloody fighting that has engulfed the vast African nation entered its second week.

Sudan's Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour Wednesday starts an official visit to Bulgaria for talks to develop bilateral relations, according to Sudan Tribune.

Novinite has met with Sudan's Ambassador to Bulgaria, H.E. Ilham Ahmed, whose country is marking 61 years of independence - but also the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Khartoum and Sofia.

Ms Ahmed, whose mission in Sofia started in September 2014, is also accredited to Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Albania.

Two anniversaries involving Sudan were celebrated in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on Tuesday.

Diplomats, politicians and other guests marked at the Central Military Club the 60th anniversary since the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of the Sudan established diplomatic relations.

But Sudan itself also marked an anniversary of its independence which dates back 61 years.
