The US Embassy is pleased to announce that the Congress of the United States has approved nearly million in additional Foreign Military Financing for Bulgaria.

"The Bulgarian army will continue to help the population in the flood-affected settlements in the municipality of Karlovo for at least another month.

The tripartite traditional joint exercise "Balkan Spirit - 2022" is being held from today, August 22, to September 2, 2022 on the territory of the Plovdiv and Pazardzhik regions. Formations from the Special Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria, Romania and the Republic of Greece participate in it. Tasks will also be performed jointly with the Air Force of the Bulgarian Army.

American soldiers will be deployed in Bulgaria as part of NATO's plans for deterrence and the defense of the eastern flank. This was reported by the Twitter account of the US mission to NATO.

The announcement does not make it clear what part of the 2,400 soldiers from the US 101st Airborne Division will remain in Bulgaria. The rest will be located in Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.

Today Bulgarians celebrate the Day of Courage and the Bulgarian Army - May 6. For the third year in a row, there will be no military parade on May 6. A solemn water blessing of the battle flags and sacred flags was organized in the capital Sofia.

"Between 700 and 800 soldiers from Italy will arrive in Bulgaria to participate in the NATO Multinational Battle Group on our territory." This was announced by Bulgaria's Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov in an interview with the Bulgarian National Television.

The US State Department approved the sale to Bulgaria of 8 new F-16 fighters (F-16 C Block 70) and related equipment, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the Pentagon's Defense and Security Cooperation Agency.

Bulgaria will not give Ukraine fighter jets, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said at a briefing, refuting reports that combat-ready aircraft of the Bulgarian army and other Soviet-made Eastern European countries could be transferred to Ukraine to try to regain control of its airspace.
