Germany's government is seeking to determine the level of interest in military service among its young people. A new draft law, approved by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government, would require young men to complete a survey about their willingness to serve in the Bundeswehr, the German military.

A German former soldier will go on trial on Monday accused of spying for Russia, as Berlin faces a surge in Moscow-linked espionage cases amid the Ukraine war.

The suspect, identified only as Thomas H. in line with German privacy laws, was arrested in August last year in the western city of Koblenz.

In a recent survey conducted by the Forza Institute, approximately half of German citizens voiced their support for the reinstatement of compulsory military service, according to a recent report by DPA.

The Kremlin spokesman told reporters that Russia had taken steps in this regard and invited the German ambassador in Moscow to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, RIA Novosti reported.
Peskov also pointed out that the conversation between German officers about the planned strikes on Crimea shows the direct involvement of the West in the conflict in Ukraine.

"Attempts to portray the Bundeswehr officer's conversation as a game with rockets and tanks are a malicious lie. Germany is preparing for war with Russia," said the deputy president of Russia's Security Council on his Telegram channel.

According to Bild, the crime was committed by a soldier of the Bundeswehr early this morning around 3:30 a.m.
The police did not want to confirm whether the attacker is on the run, and several ambulance teams are currently on the ground.
Also, a major police operation is currently underway in the district of Rothenburg.

Margarita Simonyan, the chief and responsible editor of the media group Russia North and the TV channel Russia Today, said that she has that video and that "something extremely interesting was conveyed to her by her comrades in uniform."

"Earlier I was against the abolition of compulsory military service," said FDP deputy leader Wolfgang Kubicki. Military service turned the Bundeswehr into a people's army, he said.

Pistorius told the public broadcaster ZDF that the conflict in the Middle East and the war between Russia and Ukraine will have consequences in German society.
"We have to get used to the idea that there could be a danger of war in Europe," said the German defense minister.

The largest air force maneuvers in NATO history begin today in German airspace. About 10,000 soldiers and 250 aircraft from 25 countries will participate in the two-week exercises.
