Burgazada

Organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Department, the second edition of 'Jazz on Princes' Islands' will take place from June 27 to 30. The four-day festival will host special jazz musicians on Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada Old Pier Square and Kınalıada, as well as the Adalar ferry piers in Kadıköy, Kabataş and Bostancı.

In the Princes' Islands off Istanbul, the traffic control of electric vehicles, which have replaced the carriages, will be carried out by female drivers.

Burgazada has lost nothing of its tranquil atmosphere in the years that have passed. This peaceful island welcomes you on the docks with the sight of its once-popular hotel Antigoni. The best way to explore the island is to take the words of the famous writer Sait Faik as your guide and plunge into the streets adorned with hundreds of years old mansions.

A plan that would pave the way for far-flung construction on Istanbul's Princes Islands "Adalar" has been presented to an Istanbul preservation board. If the plan is approved, the population on the islands, recorded as 14,000 in the last census conducted seven years ago, will grow apace to 76,000.

A patch of land in a protected island on the Marmara Sea off Istanbul bought by Saudi Prince Sattam Bin Abdelaziz, the late brother of the Saudi king and former governor of Riyadh, will be opened to construction following the intervention of civil servants in Ankara, Turkish media reported Dec. 25.

Animal rights activists demonstrated over the weekend against the use of coach horses on Istanbul’s Princes' Islands, launching a campaign to raise awareness about deaths of the horses and their poor conditions.
