Rain intensifies Istanbul's traffic woes

Istanbul's notorious traffic congestion has worsened this week as heavy rainfall continues to plague the megacity, leaving residents struggling with major delays and disrupting daily activities across the city.

Vehicles moved slowly in certain points of the province due to intense rain in the early morning of Dec. 4, while traffic came to a standstill in some other areas.

Plans to reactivate bus lanes

Transport authorities intend to reactivate designated lanes for buses and trolley buses in Athens and Piraeus, whose purpose has waned in recent years due to lack of policing.

The capital's urban transport organization (OASA) plans to call an international 490-thousand-euro tender for the supply and installation of CCTV cameras along the 52.3 kilometer network to improve monitoring.

Chaos at Istanbul metrobus stop as hundreds congest in early rush hour

The temporary closure of a metrobus stop in Istanbul's Zeytinburnu district led to chaotic congestion at the nearby Merter metrobus stop during the rush hours on Nov. 8. 

The human congestion forced some to queue for up to 20 minutes just to reach an overpass at the Merter stop, while others said it took them around 45 minutes to cross the overpass.

11 injured in metrobus accident in Istanbul after passenger hit driver with umbrella

Eleven people were injured in a metrobus accident in the Acıbadem neighborhood of Istanbul on Sept. 23 after a passenger hit the driver with an umbrella during a quarrel.

According to witnesses, the passenger got into an argument with the driver Recai Türkoğlu over the opening of the doors at the Acıbadem stop, heading in the direction of the Kadıköy district, at around 8.30 a.m.

Istanbul's Avc?lar metrobus station closed due to false bomb notice

The metrobus station in Istanbul's Avc?lar district was closed due to a false bomb notice on April 17. 

Police teams were dispatched to the station upon identification of a suspicious package and the station was closed by the police. 

The line remained active but metrobuses did not stop at the station, to which a team of specialists was called.
