French police regularly clear camps around Calais and Dunkirk

About 350 soldiers were deployed to aid in controlling migrant flows

French Interior Minister Gerald Dermanin announced he was launching an investigation into the clashes that broke out late last night after police cleared up a makeshift migrant camp in Place de la Republique in Paris, adding that the footage of the clashes was "shocking," Reuters reported.

Seven migrants were detained on Monday in connection with the clashes that broke out between migrant groups at the Vathy Reception and Identification Centre (RIC) for migrants and refugees - known as VIAL - on the island of Samos on Monday. 

Emmanuel Macron has vowed there will never be another large refugee camp in Calais and warned those people remaining in the area who hope to reach Britain that they are at a "dead end", according to the Guardian. 

Mudassir, 18, from Pakistan's city of Peshawar has tried to enter the European Union 30 times but was always caught and sent back to his starting point in Serbia, reported Reuters. 

 French authorities evacuated hundreds of migrants from a wood on the northern coast near Calais on Tuesday over fears it could become a magnet for others hoping to head to Britain, The Local reported.

Paris police on Friday announced the evacuation of a migrant camp in the city's 18th arrondissement, aacording to The Local - France.

The announcement comes around a month after the last evacuation of the same camp at the Porte de la Chapelle, and is the 35th such operation in the past two years.

A huge fire tore through the Grande-Synthe migrant camp outside the northern French city of Dunkirk late Monday, reducing it to "a heap of ashes", the regional chief said, cited by AFP.

Firefighters said at least ten people had been injured in the blaze at the camp, which was home to some 1,500 people by the end of March, living in closely-packed wooden huts.
