Carbon capture and storage
High hopes for carbon capture, underground storage
Capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere to store underground "sounds too good to be true", a climate expert told AFP, yet the technology to increase its capacity tenfold is already being tested.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recognises carbon capture and storage among the solutions for eliminating CO2, without giving it a central place in its models.

Campaigners call for fossil fuel deadline, more climate aid
Environmental campaigners urged climate envoys from dozens of nations gathering Tuesday in Berlin to discuss a global deadline for phasing out fossil fuels and ways of increasing aid to poor countries hit by global warming.
Undersea graveyard for CO2 opens in Denmark
Denmark inaugurated yesterday a project to store carbon dioxide 1,800 meters beneath the North Sea, the first country in the world to bury CO2 imported from abroad.
The CO2 graveyard, where the carbon is injected to prevent further warming of the atmosphere, is on the site of an old oil field.

New innovative technological solutions that contribute to the protection of the environment have always attracted Greek shipowners. It is no coincidence that they are also pioneers in investments in liquefied natural gas carriers.
Radical change needed to reach net zero emissions: IEA
The window of opportunity for reaching net zero emissions by mid-century is narrowing unless the world radically changes the way energy is produced, used and transported, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on May 18.
Carbon capture extends life of lignite units
A group of Greek and US experts has sent the Energy Ministry an alternative proposal regarding the operation of Public Power Corporation's efficient lignite-powered units, such as Ptolemaida 5, beyond the termination deadline of 2028 that the National Plan for Energy and the Climate provides for.
