Carnival in Greece continues, despite bad weather (video+pics)
The sudden stint of bad weather did not dampen the spirits of the carnival goers throughout Greece, as the festivities and celebrations of the Greek version of Halloween’ called ‘Apokries’ continued unabated. Apokries is actually rooted in ancient Dionysian practices amalgamated with the marking of the start of Lent in the Greek orthodox Christian Church.

Even though these images show that the Carnival of the 1950s cannot match modern celebrations for scale, they reveal that the party atmosphere has always existed and people were having a lot of fun.
The images show bare-chested men dressed in a variety of costumes and uniforms and women dressed up in cat outfits, feather headdresses and masks, as posted in Daily Mail.

Swissotel The Bosphorus tonight continues its "Ambassadors of Jazz Music are in Town" concert series, presented every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at the hotel's Les Ambassadeurs Bar.

Refugee children from Syria and other conflict-torn countries will be treated to a place in Rio de Janeiro's exuberant carnival parade on Feb. 9, UN officials said.
Four dead, 150 hurt in train crash in Bavaria: German police
Four people were killed when two trains collided head-on in the southern German state of Bavaria on Feb. 9, a police spokesman said, adding about 150 people were injured, including 10 very seriously.

Turkish police seized 2.3 tons of red meat illegally brought to the country from Greece in a lorry stopped at the northwestern province of Edirne.

Gendarmerie forces found 2,370 kilograms of meat on the back of two trucks.
