Catalan independence demonstration

Various groups in different parts of the world have started demanding the right to self-determination. Currently, the Catalans lead the way as the police violence engulfed recent referendum for Catalan independence in Spain and left around 800 people injured.

Spain's Constitutional Court on Nov. 11 suspended a resolution passed by Catalonia's parliament that declared the start of a secession process, at the request of the central government in Madrid.

The regional parliament of Catalonia approved a plan on Nov 9 to set up a road map for independence from Spain by 2017, in defiance of the central government.

Catalans voted Sept. 27 in an election dubbed crucial for the future of Spain, with polls pointing to a win by separatists who vow to declare the region independent by 2017.
