Political forces that support Catalonia's independence from Spain are projected to get an absolute majority in the local parliament with 55.53 of ballots already counted in Catalonia's snap regional parliamentary polls on Thursday.

 Deposed Catalan leader Carlos Puigdemont said on Tuesday that he would "run the risk" of going back to Spain if he won the election in Catalonia on the 21st of December next, Brussels Times reported.Puigdemont also described the arrest warrant issued against him by the Spanish authorities as a "fantasy".

Catalonia faces a crucial election on December 21 that will determine whether Spain is on-course to tackle the northeastern region's independence push — its gravest political crisis in the past four decades — or be mired in uncertainty for months or years.

Sacked Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont has lashed out against the European Union (EU) over its response to the Catalan crisis, in which Brussels sided with Madrid in suppressing the independence drive of the region.

The Spanish Constitutional Court annuls the declaration of the Catalan parliament of 27 October on unilateral declaration of independence, Reuters reported.

Hours after Catalonia declared independence as a result of a vote in the regional parliament, ending 70 votes in favor and 10 against, the Spanish government removed the Catalan prime minister and dismissed the parliament.

The ongoing political conflict between the government of Spain and the Generalitat of Catalonia over the issue of Catalan independence has once again proved that referendum could be a dangerous weapon in a democratic structure.

The regional parliament of Catalonia approved a plan on Nov 9 to set up a road map for independence from Spain by 2017, in defiance of the central government.
