Catholic Church sex abuse cases by country

The highest ranking Catholic official to ever be convicted of concealing sexual crimes against children has been sentenced to 12 months in Australia for covering up abuse by a pedophile priest.

An Australian archbishop was found guilty yesterday of covering up child sex abuse in the 1970s - one of the highest-ranked church officials globally to be successfully prosecuted for such offences.

A court in Ankara has sentenced a father to 12 years and three months in prison for sexually abusing his son and for inappropriate behavior against his youngest daughter, but has dismissed the alleged abuse cases related to his three elder daughters due to the "statute of limitation."

An Istanbul court has sentenced an elementary school teacher to 87 years and six months in jail on charges of sexually abusing seven girls between 2013 and 2016. 

Four men were arrested in Pieria, northern Greece on charges of sexual abusing a 16-year-old girl, the daughter of one of the men.

According to reports, the girl had suffered repeated sexual abuse since she was 6.

Police are also investigating whether the teenager's 50-year-old father received money from the other three suspects.

Thessaloniki parents are concerned following confirmation of the police of the Child Protection Services concerning the arrest of a primary school teacher, aged 51, for molesting students. Charges against him accuse molestation and sexual abuse.

A Turkish court has sentenced a man, who initially faced a total of 150 years in prison for drugging and sexually abusing two 14-year-old girls and one 15-year-old girl after faking his ID, to 10 years in jail due to his "respectable attitude" at the hearings.
