German center-right Christian Democratic Union's (CDU/CSU) parliamentary delegation, alongside associated German foundation Konrad Adenauer officials, met with Greek ruling party New Democracy's Parliamentary Group Director, Petros Tzanetakos, at the parliament in Athens on Wednesday.

The leadership of Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has backed its head Armin Laschet as the conservative bloc's candidate for chancellor in the upcoming German federal elections, dpa reported.

Armin Laschet, leader of Germany's Christian Democrats (CDU), won the backing of senior party members at an internal meeting to run as the conservative candidate to succeed Angela Merkel at a September federal election, party sources said on April 20.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative party was in crisis mode on March 15 after suffering heavy losses in two regional polls, seen as a rebuke of its pandemic management six months before a general election.

Germany is open to welcoming underage refugees from Greece, provided that the current situation at the Greek borders with Turkey - also the EU's external borders - is resolved, according to a Wednesday report on Germany's state TV ARD.
