Detainees escape during transport from Korydallos
Four detainees on Wednesday escaped during their transport from Korydallos prison in Athens to the port of Piraeus, where they would be transferred to a prison in Chania, Crete.
The four Albanians are believed to have escaped as they were being led from the police van to the ferry, along with seven other men.

Kissamos cell death being probed
Police in Hania, Crete, were on Friday investigating the death of a 54-year-old Albanian national who was found hanged in a cell in the Kissamos police precinct.
The 54-year-old used a piece of his blanket to hang himself from the cell bars.
He had been detained earlier this week on charges of illegal residence and had been facing deportation.

Hospital officials on Greece's island of Crete say German-born cinematographer Walter Lassally, who won an Academy Award for the 1964 movie Zorba the Greek, has died following complications from surgery. He was 90.

A large fish-shaped fossil was discovered in the Samaria Gorge in Crete during maintenence of the gorge path, which is a great tourist and hiking attraction.
Marine organism fossils are common in the the Cretan mountains, with numerous discoveries in the past, esepcially shells, since the time Crete was submerged in water millions of years ago.

46 Foreigners Arrested in Crete Trying to Fly to Europe with Fake Passports
Hellenic Police (EL.AS) over the weekend arrested a total of 46 foreigners trying to fly to Europe from the Heraklion and Chania, Crete airports using fake passports, reported Greek Reporter.
The foreigners were between the ages of 17 and 51, coming from several different countries. They tried to use the forged documents in an effort to travel to various European destinations.
