Bulgarian cherry production in marketing year (MY) 2018 is expected to reach a record high due to expanded area, favorable weather, and improved average yields. The growth in cherry stocks will foment more processing and fresh consumption. Peach production and stocks are lower due to weather-related yield losses in major production regions. Fresh peach consumption is forecast to be stable.

Hailstorms destroy cherry production in Northern Greece

Cherry producers in the mountain regions of Pella in northern Greece said Tuesday that 70 percent of their output was destroyed by the recent hail storms in the area.

According to authorities, the destruction of crops has reduced output by around 7,000 tons.

Output this season was forecast to exceed 12,000 tons but producers have gathered no more than 4,000 tons.

Hundreds of people celebrate reopening of Japanese Garden in Herastrau Park
