Cherry producers in the mountain regions of Pella in northern Greece said Tuesday that 70 percent of their output was destroyed by the recent hail storms in the area.

According to authorities, the destruction of crops has reduced output by around 7,000 tons.

Output this season was forecast to exceed 12,000 tons but producers have gathered no more than 4,000 tons.

Hundreds of people celebrated on Saturday the reopening of the Japanese Garden in Herastrau Park by having picnics and taking photos of the blossoming cherries, an event that was also attended by Japanese Ambassador in Bucharest Kisaburo Ishii.

He officially opened the garden where Bucharest citizens came alongside their loved ones, with blankets and food to have a full-on picnic.

Who does not like cherries? Luscious and lush, the cherry is undoubtedly the most attractive of all the fruits. Everywhere in the world, cherry-picking time is a joy, a true manifestation of summer. Cherries belong to June and its appearance is always an early celebration of a bountiful summer.
