Four political parties agree to launch a probe on sexual child abuse cases

All four political parties in the Turkish parliament have jointly agreed to launch a parliamentary inquiry into cases of sexual abuse against children following a tense debate late March 23, when the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) rejected the opposition's motion for an in-depth investigation on specific child abuse cases in the Central Anatolian province of Karaman. 

International child porn ring with leg in Greece dismantled by FBI

The Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine (HSFM) carried out a study on child suicide and found that Greece has the lowest child suicide rate in Europe. The suicide rate among Greece’s minors is 0.4 per 100,000 for boys and 0.11 per 100,000 for girls.

Syrian refugee finds abused three-year-old at Gaziantep railway station

A Syrian refugee has found a missing three-year-old girl at the railway station of the southeastern city of Gaziantep, delivering her to the police in the early hours of Jan. 6.

Medical examinations show the girl had been sexually abused and beaten, with cuts across her body. However, doctors say her condition was not life-threatening.

Man, 77, detained in Omonia for molesting 12-year-old

A 77-year-old man was arrested for child molestation in central Athens on Tuesday night.

Authorities said that the man was caught leaving a hotel in the Omonia area with a 12-year-old girl.

The suspect is alleged to have paid the youngster money to accompany him to the hotel, where he is believed to have molested her.

650 child abuse cases registered every month in Turkey

Some 650 cases of child abuse are being registered at the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) every month, according to figures provided by the Justice Ministry in response to a parliamentary question.

Some 916 cases were waiting to be inspected by forensic officials at the end of last year, the data also showed.
